I didn't take a tripod to Marfa but I did take a steady hand and a camera that performs under VERY high ISO settings. The last night we were in Marfa we headed out to find the Marfa lights and see if we could spot them a little closer than before. A pitch black drive down a VERY dirt road turned up more than the Marfa lights, we saw an incredible sky full of more stars then I ever knew existed and those cloudy looking spots in the shot below, that's the Milky Way!

There are so many things in the world that I have taken for granted,, little things,, mundane. Since becoming a photographer I view the world through a different window,, or LENS, if you want to get cheesy. My husband and I no longer just drive to our destination. We observe our surroundings,, finding joy, amusement and awe in the simplest of things.
I know that I speak for every one of us gals on this trip when I say that. I am AMAZED that we were all together in the same place but took pictures of completely different things,, in our own styles. Through their images I am able to see what I saw, but through their eyes. I can't wait till our next adventure to be awed and truly inspired by these amazing women!!

I am just starting to get into landscape and portrait photography. I have a really basic digital camera right now but I am looking into getting a better one. What would you suggest starting out with?

what an incredible experience to drop everything in your life and go spend 5 days with 12 strangers. that in itself is appealing. well in reality i wanted 5 full days with each person after realizing who i was spending this time with. i guess after the next twelve years and the next twelve trips i'll feel fulfilled. deal, ladies?
anywho, everyone had left for their flight, their wedding, their family and the few remaining were josh, whitney and kristy behrs. we had two cars so the gents road with the gents and the ladies road with the ladies. it was a 40 minute car ride. the stories, ah man the stories that kristy told me were incredible. i can tell you to go to her blog but i have a feeling i was a little privileged that day to hear the FULL stories. now i can't wait for more. there will always be a part of me that wants to be a nomad, an explorer, an adventurer like you, kristy. thanks for the inspiration.
